Final Book Selection
The Google Boys:
Sergey Brin and Larry Page In Their Own Words (August 12, 2014)
Upon reading the
assignment, I immediately knew I wanted to choose a book that focused on the
modern technologies that has allowed information to be made widespread and
available to people all around the world. More specifically, I was focused on
reading a book from the innovators perspective, on how today in our information
society, people are able to rely on others whether it be through the Internet,
newspapers, or anything else for answers as well as advice on anything. As a
result, after doing my fair share of research, I have decided to read The Google Boys: Sergey Brin and Larry Page
In Their Own Words, which was published in August of 2014. This
recent novel, which is 160 pages, is priced on Amazon for just $9.79, and goes
in depth with Google’s founders on how they have truly changed the world. It is
a compilation of their quotes, advice, and legitimate life lessons that allow
the reader to see the mindset of how Google emerged.
In the midst of deciding upon which
books to choose, I also found some very interesting other novels that I considered.
Specifically, I looked at The Tao of
Twitter, Revised and Expanded New Edition: Changing Your Life and Business 140
Characters at a Time, along with Rise
of the Machines: Human Authors in a Digital World, which are also relevant
to today’s growing dependence on social media and our information society. All
of these books were rated highly on Amazon and critiqued as being informative
as well inspiring. Prices were similar to the book I ended up choosing, and
these others were a little bit longer in length. The reason I ended up choosing
the book based on Google’s owners was because of how significant this company
is in my life. Undoubtedly, everyday I use this search engine to research
things for school, entertainment, or just random questions I have that I want
to get accurate information on rapidly.
After doing research on my selected
book, CNN Money and an editor for “The Washington Post” both explained how this
novel on Google is hard to put down once started, and is inspirational. It has
not been rated on Amazon yet, and was not near the top 100 best sellers, but I
am still very excited to read it. Looking forward, I am really interested in
going in-depth with this book on Google, especially from an author who has also
written on Steve Jobs and Stephen King, all with great reviews. This should be
a good project.

I think you took a similar approach to this assignment as I did! I am also really interested in modern technology versus technology of the past. It will be curious to see how our research diverges and at the same time has similar ideas! I really think it will be cool to get a better look at something our generation is so dependent on.
